Nostradamus

from the sky: According to an article in the Washington Post on 12 September 1999, a total solar eclipse occurred on the 11th of August 1999. Nostradamus saw the eclipse as an evil omen.

Angoulmois: An anagram of Mongolia and US – the United States of America. Thus, the fourth line actually reads ‘The US revived the great king of Mongolia’. Mongolia is the ‘Land of the Mongols.’ By expanding NATO, and its unconditional support of Israel, and by directly threatening Iran, America makes a nuclear war almost inevitable. 

In a few short months, Russia will offer to go into Iran to stabilise the country but will be rebuffed by the Americans. Worse still, America says any attempt by Russia to put its troops into Iran will lead to war. The Russians interpret the ultimatum as a virtual declaration of war and believe the Americans are simply looking for an excuse to begin hostilities. As I’ve said elsewhere, I’m not sure Russian fears are groundless.

before and after, Mars shall reign: This refers to the first and second Gulf Wars. 

Most commentators interpret this quatrain to mean that Nostradamus predicted a third world war at the end of the twentieth century, but that is not what he says. His quatrain is about the emergence of a new leader. 

So, who is the man who rivals the great Genghis Khan ?

 Because Nostradamus implies that Russia will launch a nuclear first strike a few months from now, Vladimir Putin is the obvious candidate. 

Putin became a first deputy prime minister on 9 August 1999. Later that day, President Yeltsin appointed him Acting Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and anointed him as his successor. That same day, Putin agreed to run for the Presidency.  

The Duma approved his appointment as Prime Minister on 16 August 1999. Few expected Putin to last longer than his predecessors. Most considered him a Yeltsin lieutenant as the President determined the makeup of his ministry. Nevertheless, he quickly overtook his rivals by cultivating a law-and-order image that raised his profile and popularity with the general public.

Notably, the 9th of August in the Gregorian calendar is the 27th of July in the (Julian) calendar used by Nostradamus.

If America wishes to avoid a catastrophic war that will claim the lives of hundreds of millions of its citizens, it would be well advised to change its policies towards Russia and the Middle East.
