In the city of FertSod [my emphasis] homicide,
Deed, and deed many oxen ploughing no sacrifice,
Return again to the honours of Artemis,
And to Vulcan dead bodies to bury.
FertSod: This is a reference to Sodom and homosexuality.
SF: These are the initials of San Francisco.
oxen ploughing no sacrifice: The normal temple sacrifices are not followed.
return to the honours of Artemis: In Greek mythology, Iphigenia was a princess of Mycenae and the daughter of King Agamemnon and Queen Clytemnestra.
In the story, Agamemnon offends the goddess Artemis on his way to the Trojan War by killing one of Artemis’ sacred stags. Because of this slight, Artemis will only allow the Greek troops to reach Troy if Agamemnon kills his eldest daughter, Iphigenia.
In one version of the myth, Artemis intervenes before Iphigenia is killed, leaving a deer or a goat to be sacrificed in her place. The goddess transports Iphigenia to Tauris (in Crimea), where she becomes a priestess in the Temple of Artemis. In this role she is required to sacrifice strangers found on the Taurian shore to Artemis. Eventually, Orestes travels to Tauris where he meets Iphigenia and the two return to Greece.
to Vulcan dead badies to bury: After Hera threw Vulcan out of heaven, he landed in the sea, where he lived with the Nereids, the daughters of Nereus, for some time.
